Have you ever considered offering your property as film or photography location?
You may have an apartment or a house or maybe you run a local cafe or laundrette? You may think that your property would not be suitable for a shooting location, but you are probably wrong.
You see, filmmakers and photographers are in need of different types of locations. If you ever checked any location agency website you probably noticed that the properties listed there are usually pretty impressive. Then you look back at your 6×6 foot shop and think: “This definitely wouldn’t work”. Well not necessarily. Not all shoots need mansions and massive warehouses. Some actually need your tiny candy shop. And as you turn away you leave filmmakers and photographers in the dead end where they have to go on the streets and go to their local shops to ask them an awkward question: “Is it possible to film here?”. For filmmakers it is time consuming and for property owners, who would actually be interested, it is a loss of money.
That last paragraph sounded a bit like it is property owners’ fault that they don’t advertise their properties as film locations. But it is not because there is barely any website where they could advertise their sometimes odd-for-filming properties. Think about it this way: from filmmakers point of view – sometimes it is hard to find a simple grass field to film in. For smaller productions it is too expensive to go to location agencies and even if it wasn’t – they just need a simple field. They don’t need any castles coming with it. And then from property owners point of view: you have a field that is “just there” and you have no idea that there are people who are ready to pay for running around on your grass with a camera for a day or two.
So if there would be a way for both filmmakers/photographers and property owners to both have a win-win situation would you use it? I know I would.
That’s why we started Quicklocs. It is an online film and photography locations database that connects shooters with property owners. No
middle-man. It is a project that is and probably will always be in a never ending “in-development” stage because there will always be ways to improve user experience. Your comments and feedback are always welcome, as long as we can make your shooting or renting for shoot experience easier.
